Ashwagandha Golden Milk

Warm ashwagandha golden milk with turmeric, cardamom and jaggery

Prep: 7 mins  ·  Serves: 1

Golden milk became fashionable about ten years ago.

In Indian homes, haldi doodh had been happening for much longer. Warm milk with turmeric was simply the familiar drink before bed. In some households, ashwagandha, cardamom, or a little dry ginger joined the cup too.

She did not call it a wellness ritual. She simply made it the way her mother had shown her.

What You Need

  • 1 cup whole milk or any milk you prefer
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ashwagandha Root Powder from Sendriya Life
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1 green cardamom pod, crushed
  • Honey or jaggery to taste
  • 1 to 2 Dry Ginger Flakes, optional

How to Make It

  1. Warm the milk with the optional dry ginger flakes and cardamom on low heat for 3 minutes.
  2. Add turmeric, ashwagandha, and black pepper. Whisk or stir for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat before it boils and strain into a cup.
  4. Let it cool slightly, then sweeten with honey or jaggery to taste.
  5. Serve warm.

On Ashwagandha Taste

Ashwagandha has an earthy, slightly bitter, woody taste. Warm milk, turmeric, cardamom, and a little sweetness help balance that flavour. Start with a smaller amount if you are new to its taste and follow the serving directions on the pack.
